- News and
Information - The
Association newsletter, Emerging Trends,
is printed quarterly. It contains educational
and informative articles on a number of
issues to related to the poultry industry.
These articles concentrate on how to save
the producer money, law compliance issues
and promotional activities of the industry.
More importantly, Emerging Trends provides
an "Upcoming Events" section to announce various
activities and functions of the Association
such as Confined Animal Feeding Operations
(CAFO) technical training opportunities to
other seminars ranging from money management
to computers.
- Federal
and State Governmental Relations - The
Association is active on both the state and
federal level governmental relations activities.
This includes all statewide and local elected
officials. The administering of MPA-PAC (political
action committee) ensures support to those
candidates that support the pro-business
stance of the Mississippi poultry industry.
The Association is also active in working
with state and federal agencies that interact
with the poultry industry from environmental
issues to economic development.
- Money Saving
Opportunities - The
Association searches for methods to save its members
money through various opportunities. Research is
being done to structure a propane buying cooperative
and various discounts are given to participating
vendors who sell products.
- Grower Advisory
Committee - This
committee serves as a sounding board of grower
issues and challenges from within the industry.
The committee also provides guidance and input
to seminar topics, makes available information
on various on a wide array of insurance opportunities,
and chooses scholarship participants to children
or grandchildren of Association members. The committee
meets quarterly to discus any of these issues or
others that may arise and receive feedback from
anyone in the poultry industry.
- Scholarships - The Association awards two scholarships each year to a child or grandchild of an Association member. We have two $1,000 scholarships that are awarded once a year to a full-time student majoring in Poultry Science with the other going to a student of any major.
- Promotion - The
Association works hard to promote the state's number
one agricultural commodity, poultry. Working with
various outlets, we strive to use facts and figures
to display the industry's importance the state's
economy. We also work with other like-interest
groups and events to help promote the industry.
